Rosalia, the second of three children, was born into an intact and economically stable family.  The sudden death of her father in a work accident changed everything.  Because the family had no life insurance, his death left the family destitute.  Rosalia’s mother takes care of the household and earns the equivalent of only five dollars a week from work she manages to find.  This lack of money makes it extremely difficult for her to support the three children and herself.  Rosalia’s older brother attends secondary school and her younger sister attends the third grade of primary school.  It is impossible for the mother to pay for the children’s education and basic needs.

Rosalia enjoys being in school. She studies with enthusiasm and takes care of her school materials. She will be in  fifth grade this spring and physical education is her favorite class.

Rosalia helps her mother whenever she can.  She used to have a regular childhood but her father’s death changed her life dramatically.  When on break from school, Rosalia must work as much as she can to aid the family financially
