Andrea is the eldest of three girls in a family that is very poor by local standards. There is often not enough food for everyone in the house because Andrea’s father, a day laboror lacking any formal education, earns only $20Q (less than $3 USD) per day, and is unable to find stable employment. The family lives and a bamboo and straw hut, which is very uncomfortable when it is windy and during the rainy season. They have another daughter and she will attend to the first grade of primary. The budget for the next year will be expensive for them.

Andrea enojoys school and is enthusiastic about her studies. She takes a great deal of care to keep her school supplies in good condition and is very organized. She is currently in the sixth grade and her favourite class is physical education.

Andrea helps her mother to wash dishes, sweep the floor, and do laundry in her spare time. She also enjoys attending a children’s religious group on the weekend.
